What means Retreading?

Precure retreading hot retreading

Throughout the process of retreading a worn tire (carcass), after getting carefully inspected, is used and after careful preparatory work, a new tread pattern is vulcanised on the tread and thus gives the tire a second life. This process includes several steps from initial inspection to finishing.

Vulcanisation refers to the chemical, irreversible process, in which all used rubber components (carcass, raw rubber, bonding gum, pre-cured tread rubber) react and bond together. This chemical and physical reaction depends on temperature, pressure and time. It causes a permanent bond and elastic properties as required for the final product, the retread tire.

A basic distinction in the retreading business is the method: Precure retreading or hot retreading. The Bandag process is a special, high-quality precure retreading process, which was developed by the German Bernd Anton Nowak in the 1950s.
